Course Contents

COURSE CONTENT
In the beginning are provided all the information about the indoor environment and the needs of pot plants, as well as the cares for their maintenance.
For every pot plant are provided: origin, description, species, varieties, culture needs, (propagation, light, soil, temperature, relative humidity, watering, fertilization, and other cares), ornamental value and use.
More analytically the following plants are being described:
Plants for their leaves:Beloperone, Fittonia, Aglaonema, Dieffenbachia, Caladium, Monstera, Epipremnum, Spathiphyllum, Syngonium, Philodendron, Aralia, Dizygotheca, Hedera, Brassaia, Fatshedera, Araucaria, Tradescandia, Zebrina, Croton, Calathea, Ctenanthe, Maranta, Ficus, Asparagus, Yucca, Dracaena, Cordyline, Nolina, Sansevieria, Chlorophytum, Peperomia, Pilea, Columnea, Plectranthus, Ferns, Succulents,Cacti.
Plants for their flowers:Anthurium, Bromelias, Hydrangea, Kalanchoe, Begonia, Fuchsia, Euphorbiapulcherrima etc.
Assignment of a course work project and presentation of the results.

Educational Goals

The student will be able to understand the importance of indoor pot plants in the house environment.
Upon successful completion of this course the student will have the skills to:
• Choose the right ornamental indoor plants to be installed in a specific indoor space depending on the lighting, temperature and relative humidity of the indoor environment of this space.
• Understand the impact of ornamental indoor plants in the human health, like and in the formation of an indoor environment, depending on their growth, color and their specific characteristics.
• Correlate the right ornamental indoor plant and choose them depending on the needs of the owner and the purpose of the building.
• Know the methods of propagation of ornamental plants and the right cultural practice for their maintenance in indoor spaces.
• Evaluate the existing indoor spaces and to propose appropriate solutions concerning the use of ornamental indoor plants for the improvement and the decoration of these spaces.

Οι ανάγκες του εν λόγω μαθήματος καλύπτονται με τη χρήση computer, Internet και dataprojector. Ως Εκπαιδευτικό Λογισμικό χρησιμοποιείται: PowerPoint, Word, Excel και DVDs. Επικοινωνία με τους φοιτητές μέσω e-mail.

Students Evaluation

Written final examination for the theory (100%) which comprises:
– Questions of development subjects in known matter of proposed bibliography.
– Questions which require synthesis of information and critical thought by the student.
