Professor of Animal Genetics and Breeding in the Department of Agriculture of the Faculty of Geotechnical Science of International Hellenic University. I am a graduate of the Department of Agricultural Technology of ATEITh and I have an MSc in Animal Reproduction from the University of Aberdeen (Euroean Union scholarship) and a PhD in Quantitative Genetics from Edinburgh University (State Scholarship Foundation of Greece). I have previosuly worked as researcher in the Roslin Institute (UK), in one of the leading Poyltry Genetics and Breeding Companies in the world (Aviagen Ltd.) and as an agricultural expert officer in one of the largest food companies in the world (Nestle).
I have participated in more than 100 publications in peer review journals and conferences, I am a member of 5 scientific organizations. I have successfully participated in all European Research Framework Program calls over the last 20 years (FP5, FP6, FP7 and Horizon2020) and also in the steering committee of two FP5 EU fish genetics projects. I have large experience in Quantitative Genetics (e.g. genetic parameter estimation, breeding value evaluation, design of breeding programs, QTL detection and Marker Assisted Selection and genomic selection methods etc.) as well as Population Genetics (e.g. population genetic characterization, population genetic diversity, paternity identification, molecular traceability etc.) and in the development of databases for animal breeding programs.
